I have seen some bloggers use some sort of Random Number Generator to select Giveaway winners. Here at Roses and Rust, we are much more sophisticated...... we pick the names out of a hat! The lucky winners of the two double Decorex tickets are Vanessa Witte and Nadine Raine. Please contact me asap, so I can tell you where to collect your tickets.
Now on to today's post... it is no secret that I love neutrals and while they look beautiful just being neutral, they also create the perfect backdrop when one wants to introduce a bit of colour into an interior.
Have a look at these two homes where just one or two predominant colours have been added to a neutral scheme. The great thing is, that if you get tired of the colour or just feel like a change, it is so easy to just whip away a cushion here or a vase there without going to any great expense.
The first home uses a fairly strong red and softer shades of green.
The second home below uses pretty shades of blue and turquoise added to a neutral background.
I used the words "favourite" and "colour" a few times in this post and every time the American-made spell check tells me I should spell them "favorite" and "color". But here in SA and the UK, we spell them "favourite" and "colour". I wonder why, when they crossed to Atlantic to the New World, many years ago, the "U" got lost. Perhaps a U-Boat got them?
Have a lovely week
Till next time

We’re headed to the market and we’re not buying food!
This weekend is the start of the High Point Spring Market – the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world. All of our favorite vendors will debut their new lines and we’ll be collecting so many samples and catalogues that we each pull a rolling bag behind us.
It's go, go, go but this is definitely our favorite design industry event, by far. We are like kids in the candy store and Mel, in particular, is unstoppable!
So if you need a new light fixture or rug or sofa -- now is the time to tell us. There are about 11.5 million square miles of showroom space and we try our best to channel serious super powers to cover as much as possible. All the best stuff is there so odds are good we’ll find whatever it is you are looking for!
So go ahead and post a comment or send us a photo of the space you are shopping for and we’ll be on the prowl.
And we’ll be posting new favorite finds every day, so follow the blog to see what’s new in interior design this spring.
Do it!

Travel is so good for the soul. The rest. The relaxation. The inspiration. Whittington Design Studio (and our clients) travelled far and wide this spring. Here are a few of the great pictures we brought back for inspiration.
The clouds over this Grand Canyon shot look like a painting. The vastness is breathtaking. And speaking of paint, the striated rock is like a strip on a paint wand. Terra cotta anyone?
Table cloths hung for sale at craft markets near Berlin Falls along the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Batik fabrics are all over South Africa and so many of the prints are worthy of reproducing here at home.
Handmade Yucatan vine lanterns in a beach cabana on Isla Holbox, Mexico.
We love integrating natural materials in our designs.

So go ahead and hit the road for some design inspiration -- or send us a favorite travel photo and let us find the best way to bring the vacation look you love into your home.
Do it!
p.s. Speaking of travel, check back in a day or two to hear about our next trip!

Well, it's been a busy evening. After supervising homework and cooking supper, I had to bake and ice sixty eight cupcakes for my twins to take to school tomorrow for their 11th birthday. Then my 13th year old suddenly remembered he had to have his hair cut by tomorrow or else he will get detention, so an emergency haircut had to take place. (In case you are wondering - he is not in military school - school boys have to have short hair and wear uniforms here in South Africa). Our internet is back after having been down all weekend so I had to catch up on about 50 emails and it also happens to be my 18th wedding anniversary today. Not a very romantic way to celebrate but, somehow, life got in the way. Browsing the web to come up with something fitting to post, I stumbled across this beautiful place and thought, if I was ever to get married again (to the same husband, of course) I would choose this beautiful place in Tuscany. And then perhaps we could come back here for a visit (sans children) on every anniversary - a girl can dream, right!
Beautiful, isn't it?
I must apologise for my lack of visits and comments on many of my favourite blogs - life has just got very hectic lately, but I hope to resume normal blog activity soon!
Till next time
