Mixed Materials: White & Wood

White -- particularly high gloss white -- is all over the place these days.  We love it matched with natural wood finishes.  The mix is not necessarily new, but it's clearly still hot because it was all over High Point in April.

Here are a few of our favorite examples:

White, high-gloss metal and wood picnic table from Artesia.

Dramatic campaign table from Bobo Intriguing Objects.  The wood base and trim has a rustic, unfinished feel and the super high gloss white top gives it modern sex appeal.  Love the oval edge on this one (above) but they have a traditional rectangular one too.

The Atlantic night table from Mr. and Mrs. Howard for Sherrill Furniture -- the inside is a curved mahogany veneer.

Here the top is marble, not lacquered wood, but the effect is similar.  

Clean, cold stone and warm, soft wood.  

So go ahead and mix things up a little with your next purchase.  Glossy, sleek white plus earthy, rustic wood equals a perfect match.

Warming to Winter

Well, winter has most definitely arrived here in Cape Town, but we should not let that get us down.... winter offers so much to look forward to....

....like a comfy chair and a good book...

....the warmth of a crackling fire....

.... cosy, comfy clothes....

... taking up knitting....

....on second thoughts, I'm not sure about the knitting, I may just get carried away!....

....warm woollen blankets....

....delicious hot drinks....

 

... and comfort food....

....so to winter, I say....
