Design Trend: Copper Makes A Comeback

Warm metals have been making a huge comeback over the last several years.  Say goodbye to brushed nickel and say hello (again) to gold, brass, and this year's darling:  copper.  No longer making it's home goods appearance on grandma's tea kettle or grandpa's moonshine still, copper is showing up all over the place.   It's a great way to add a warm and inviting element to your fall decor.

The penny may have outlived it's usefulness, but this lustrous metal sure has found some great new ways to shine:

Design Trend: Copper Makes A Comeback

A Colourful, Cheerful Home

In my last post, I told you to expect some stalling..... the X part of my alphabet has me somewhat stumped! If I wait long enough, I could do X for Xmas as one reader suggested! In the meanwhile, while I patiently wait for inspiration to strike, I have a lovely house to show you.

Based in Marbella, the house is owned by a Swedish couple, and is an interesting combination of serene Nordic whites mixed with the more colourful hues of Spain, with a French influence thrown into the mix.

I am usually a fan of neutrals, but as we are entering spring here in South Africa, and our gardens are coming to life again, a colourful palette seems appropriate at this time of year. The colour is cleverly added through the scatter cushions and other accessories and could easily be changed. I particularly love the pair of mirrors behind the sofa.

The solid table with its carved pedestal is a nice contrast to the elegant Gustavian chairs. The beautiful beams in limewashed grey give the room a light and airy feel.

The all white kitchen adds a Scandinavian touch to the home and is softened with touches of wood and wicker.

The bedrooms are more subdued. This one has dark grey walls providing a welcome respite from the bright Mediterranean light. I really love these curtains!

This would be a lovely spot for a cup of tea and a good book.

A Colourful, Cheerful Home

Our blog took a summer vacation this year, but we most definitely did not!

We've been swamped with new client work, which is a fabulous problem to have.  We have also been devoting any spare moments (what spare moments?) to a big makeover to our web site.  A new web site means new photos and new photos means photo shoots -- and lots of them.

The Aesthete's Alphabet - W is for Wire

Why wire....you might well ask! I could have chosen "wallpaper" as my blog friend Carolyn from Sweet Chaos Home suggested. (I feel that Carolyn and I are kindred spirits. She is also the lone feminine voice in her male dominated household of husband and 4 sons). I thought of choosing "wisteria" which are in bloom here at the moment and look magnificent. I considered "window seats" but then remembered I have done a post on them before. I nearly chose " wine" because ...... I just need it sometimes (Carolyn will understand). I settled on "wire" because for some or other reason, I seem to have collected loads of pictures featuring wire baskets and I was running out of time.

Useful for storage in an office, kitchen, bathroom or almost anywhere, great for picking herbs or fresh flowers, perfect for gift hampers or they can just be left empty as a decorative feature.Whatever shape or size, whether rustic and vintage or sleek and contemporary, I think every household could do with a few. Take your pick.....

 

 

There might be a bit of stalling before my next post ....... X is for ......because I'm finding it eXtremely difficult to think of something!
