The mercury is dropping fast here on the East Coast and everybody is heading inside to hearth and home.  Time to warm up by some stylish fireplaces -- we've got lots of warm looks to share:

Travertine is frequently used for fireplace surrounds but we think using the same stone for the mantle piece makes this modern fireplace more interesting.

Our client wanted a contemporary look, so we replaced a traditional dental moulding mantle with the concave profile of cove moulding and re-faced the fireplace with glass mosaic tile in shades of blue, green and white.  The adjacent built-ins were designed to integrate seamlessly into the new mantle.

The original floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace wall was too imposing in this small basement space so we re-faced it with a smooth, glass mosaic and added a cantilevered mantle that was finished to coordinate with the cocktail ottoman.

A painted brick surround was transformed with glass mosaic and a stone hearth and then framed with a wood mantle for an updated traditional look in this Arlington family room.

Here a travertine fireplace surround is integrated into a millwork application (1x8 MDF) for a contemporary, "wrapped" effect.
